Where we work: roofing across the Bay Area

Quick answer

Golden Sky Roofing Inc is a roofing contractor with one office, at 217 San Jose Ave, taking jobs across San Jose, Silicon Valley and the Bay Area, including Los Gatos, Campbell, Saratoga, Cupertino and Santa Clara. We hold CSLB #1160249, Class C-39 (Roofing). Other nearby cities and towns are confirmed by address: call (408) 315-1929 or email office@goldensky-roofing.com and we will tell you whether we can take the job.

Where we work

We run the company from one office in San Jose, and Santa Clara County is home. We also serve Redwood City and Burlingame in San Mateo County and Fremont in Alameda County. Every estimate starts with someone looking at your roof in person, so the first step is a short call to confirm that we can get to your address.

Permits depend on the city

Each city sets its own permit rules, and what a roof job needs can differ between San Jose, Fremont and Redwood City. Golden Sky Roofing Inc pulls the permits and adds the permit cost to your estimate, so the paperwork is not left to you. At the estimate we tell you what applies to your address.

What homeowners should know, city by city

These notes come from published city and fire-agency documents, last checked in November 2026. Rules change, so confirm with your city’s building department before work starts.

San Jose. Our office is here, and the city requires a building permit when 25% or more of a roof is replaced in any 12 months. Homes on its Historical Resources Inventory need Planning clearance first.

Santa Clara. The Building Division says replacing an asphalt shingle roof with no new sheathing does not need a permit under its rules, but decking repairs of 32 square feet or more, structural changes and solar panels that must come off for the work do.

Sunnyvale. Roof replacements and repairs of more than 100 square feet need a permit obtained before tear-off, and the application includes an HOA approval letter if one applies.

Mountain View. For a same-day roofing permit, the Building Division requires at least a Class C fire rating and cross ventilation, and the sheathing and nailing inspection is scheduled online with your permit number.

Los Gatos. All roofs must be Class A fire rated, and a residential roofing permit is applied for online through the Town’s Citizen Portal. Exterior alterations to a landmark, a historic district property or a pre-1941 structure need planning approval first, so check with Planning if your home may qualify.

Campbell. Roofing permits go only to licensed C-39 contractors or owner-builders, and Registered Historic Homes need Planning approval before the permit is issued.

Cupertino. A tear-off inspection comes before any underlayment or roofing goes on, and all dry-rotted wood must be replaced before that inspection.

Los Altos. Its roofing permit application asks for the new roof’s fire class (A, B or C), the number of existing layers and the weight of the new material.

Palo Alto. Original Eichler roofs were flat or low slope, often around 3:12, on tracts built from about 1949 to the mid-1970s, according to the city’s Eichler design guidelines.

Morgan Hill. Homes in a Fire Hazard Severity Zone need Class A fire resistant roofing, and the city requires a final roof inspection.

Fremont. Roof work over 100 square feet is an express permit applied for online, and in wildland urban interface fire areas new structures and replacement roofs need at least Class A.

Milpitas. The Fire Department’s wildfire plan describes parts of the East Foothills, including Calaveras Ridge and Bayview, as wildland urban interface, so hillside homes should ask the city what fire rating applies.

Saratoga. The Santa Clara County Fire Department’s plan for Saratoga identifies the western part of the city as wildland urban interface, so ask the city which fire rating applies to your address.

Redwood City. About 46% of the city’s housing units were built before 1960, according to its 2015-2023 Housing Element.

Burlingame. In the city’s wildland urban interface areas, replacing 50% or more of a roof within 12 months requires at least Class A roofing. Source: City WUI re-roof handout.

What to have ready when you call

A short call is enough to find out whether we can take your job. These details make it quicker:

  • The street address and city, so we can confirm that the property is in our area
  • Whether it is a house, an apartment building or a commercial building
  • The roof type, if you know it: shingle, tile or flat
  • What you are seeing, such as a leak, a stain, missing shingles or an aging roof
  • Any dates that matter, such as a sale, a rainy season deadline or a board meeting

Choosing a roofer near you

Distance is only one thing to weigh. A roofer who works in your city should be able to answer two plain questions: where the office is, and what license they hold and how to check it. Ours are simple. The office is at 217 San Jose Ave in San Jose, the license is CSLB #1160249, Class C-39, and you can look it up on the CSLB website. Whoever you hire, ask for the scope and price in writing so you can compare proposals on equal terms.

What stays the same at every address

The steps do not change with the zip code: a phone call, a free on-site estimate, a written proposal, a start date after the deposit, the install, and a final walkthrough with your warranty paperwork in writing. The full sequence is on our process page, and the terms of our work are on the warranty page.
