Gutter repair and installation in San Jose

Quick answer

Gutters carry rain off the roof and away from your walls and foundation. Golden Sky Roofing Inc repairs, replaces and installs gutters and downspouts for San Jose homes. We start with a free on-site estimate and put the scope and price in a written proposal before any work begins.

What gutters do and why it matters

Rain gutters and downspouts collect roof runoff and move it away from the roofline, the walls and the foundation. When they sag, leak, clog or pull away from the house, that water goes somewhere else: behind the gutter into the fascia, down the siding, or into the ground beside the foundation. A damaged gutter is a small repair if you catch it early and a wood repair if you do not.

Gutter repair

Many gutter problems can be fixed without replacing the whole run. Typical repairs include:

  • Re-securing a sagging run. Gutters sag when the hangers or fasteners lose their hold on the fascia. We re-secure the run or replace the hangers.
  • Sealing leaking seams. A seam is where two sections join, and it is the most common place for a drip.
  • Replacing a damaged section. A dented, cracked or rusted stretch can be cut out and replaced.
  • Fixing downspouts. Disconnected, crushed or loose downspouts send water to the wrong place.
  • Correcting standing water. A run that holds water after the rain has stopped is not draining toward the downspout. We find out why and correct the pitch or the outlet.

Gutter replacement

Replacement makes sense when repair stops paying off. That usually means rust or cracking across much of the run, seams that keep failing, or sections that have pulled away so often that the wood behind them is damaged. We tell you which side of the line your gutters are on, and we do not recommend replacement when a repair will hold.

Gutter installation

A new gutter needs to be placed and pitched so water moves to the downspouts, and the downspouts need to send that water somewhere useful. We look at your roof edges, how the roof drains and where the water should leave, and then size and place the gutters and downspouts to fit. A new installation is also a good time to deal with any damaged fascia behind it, which we cover on our siding and wood repair page.

Signs your gutters need work

  • Sagging, or pulling away from the fascia
  • Water overflowing or spilling over the edge during rain
  • Leaking seams or rusted sections
  • Peeling paint or stains on the fascia and siding below
  • Water pooling next to the foundation after rain

Gutters and your roof

Gutters and the roof work as one system. Water that backs up at the roof edge can find its way under the shingles. For work on the roof itself, see roof repair or roof replacement.

Gutter FAQ

Yes. We install new gutters and downspouts, pitched so water moves to the downspouts and sized to the roof area they drain. Tell us where water should leave the property and we plan the downspouts around that.

Often yes. Re-securing a sagging run, resealing a seam or replacing a damaged section are common repairs. If the gutters are past repair, we will say so and recommend replacement.

The most common causes are a clog, a sagging run that no longer drains toward the downspout, and a downspout that is blocked or too small for the roof area it serves. An on-site look shows which one it is.

Worth considering if the gutters are already near the end of their life, since the roof edge is open and the work can be scheduled together. If they are in good shape, there is no need to replace them with the roof, and we tell you which applies.

Yes. We reconnect or replace loose and crushed ones, and at the estimate we look at where each one sends water. Tell us where water pools after rain.

Damaged fascia and trim are handled through siding and wood repair. We can look at the gutters and the wood together at the estimate.
