Roof repair in San Jose
Quick answer
Roof repair fixes a specific problem without replacing the whole roof. Golden Sky Roofing Inc, led by Jose Dominguez, who has worked in construction since 2000, repairs damaged shingles, worn flashing, vents, valleys and ridge caps for homeowners in San Jose, and tells you honestly when a repair will not be enough. We hold CSLB #1160249, Class C-39, and the estimate is free.
Jose Dominguez has worked in construction since 2000. That is the lens we bring to repair: find where the water is coming from, fix that, and say so when a repair will not hold. Read Jose’s story.

Finding where the problem starts
The spot where you see damage is not always where the problem starts. For a planned repair, we begin with the places that wear out first: pipe boots and vents, flashing at walls and chimneys, valleys, lifted or missing shingle tabs and ridge caps. The first visit is about narrowing it down, because a repair at the wrong spot costs you the repair and the next problem.
Repairs we handle, component by component
Shingle repair. Damaged shingles are lifted, the fasteners are removed, and new shingles are installed and sealed in the pattern of the surrounding roof. A single missing shingle is a small job; a patchwork of repairs across a roof is a sign to talk about replacement.
Flashing repair. Metal flashing is re-seated, re-sealed or replaced where it meets walls, chimneys and valleys. Sealant alone is a temporary fix on most flashing joints, so we address the flashing itself where we can.
Pipe boots and vents. The rubber or metal collar around a pipe is a common wear point. Replacing it is a quick repair that stops water getting in at that spot.
Valleys. Valleys carry concentrated water. We check that the valley lining is intact and the shingles along it are secure.
Ridge and hip caps. Loose caps are re-secured or replaced so moisture does not reach the peak.
Tile and flat roofs. Tile roofs have their own repairs; see our tile roofing page. Working on a flat roof? That is a different set of systems. See flat roofing.

Repair example
Rot found when the old roofing comes off
Some leaks start with damaged framing that only shows once the roofing is removed. When that happens we show you what we found and explain what needs to be replaced.
Get a free estimateWhat a repair cannot fix
Repair works best on a roof that is otherwise sound. It cannot fix:
- A deck that is soft or rotted across a wide area
- A roof surface that is worn out across the board, where new repairs keep failing next to old ones
- Water entering from a source other than the roof, such as plumbing or condensation
If we find any of those, we say so before you spend money on a repair that will not last.
Repair or replace: how we decide
We look at the size of the damage, the age and condition of the rest of the roof, and what is going on beneath the surface. A good repair on a sound roof is money well spent. A repair on a roof that is worn out across the board is often just a delay.
You can weigh it yourself with a few questions. How many separate problem areas are there? Has the same spot been repaired before? Is there staining in several places inside, or daylight visible in the attic? One problem area on an otherwise sound roof points to repair. Several areas, or the same fix repeated, point to replacement. If we think replacement is right, we show you why. If a repair does the job, that is what we recommend. For the bigger picture, see roof replacement in San Jose.
Matching your existing roof
New shingles do not always match old ones exactly. Sun fades roofing over the years, and the product on your roof may no longer be made. We aim for the closest match available and tell you what to expect before we start, so the repaired area is not a surprise. If a close match is not possible, we explain the options before any work begins.

Repair example
A new deck under the new surface
Once damaged framing is replaced, new plywood decking goes over it so the roof surface goes back on a solid base. Your written proposal lists the details.
Get a free estimateWhat to expect from the estimate
Anthony Rivera, Sales and Estimating, walks the roof with you at the free estimate and talks through the problem area. We then send a written proposal that names the problem, the fix and the price. If we find related issues while we are up there, we point them out so you can decide what to do about them. A roof inspection is a separate paid service that documents the roof’s condition with photos and written descriptions. See our process.
What to expect on repair day
Repairs, residential and commercial, are typically scheduled the same or next day once you approve the proposal. For building owners, see commercial roof repair. Before we arrive, move vehicles away from the house and make sure we can reach the attic hatch if the work calls for it. Tell us about pets and gates. The repair follows the scope and price in your written proposal. If something unexpected shows up, we explain it and agree any change with you first.
Who does the work
Golden Sky Roofing Inc holds CSLB #1160249, Class C-39 (Roofing). Repairs draw on Jose’s 20+ years of experience in construction, and our team sees each one through from the estimate and written proposal to the fixed roof. Terms for the work are in writing before it starts. See our warranty.
Keep the roof in good shape
Repairs work best alongside regular upkeep. Keeping drainage clear before the rainy season, trimming branches that touch the roof and looking for loose or missing pieces after high winds or heavy rain all help a repair last. See roof maintenance and roof inspections if you want to catch problems early.
